Rababa / Kemenche

The body of the kamenche consists of a round neck which passes through a small round sound box made of coconut covered with a thin membrane of sheepskin. Traditionally, kamanches once had three silk strings, however modern models have four metal strings.

This Rababa comes directly from Egypt and is made by a professional player to ensure good sound quality for each instrument. It is constructed from painted and then varnished mahogany wood.

The kemençe is a name used to refer to various types of stringed and bowed musical instruments originating in the eastern Mediterranean. This instrument is the original black sea kemenche.
