Kabak kemane
The body of the kamenche consists of a round neck which passes through a small round sound box made of coconut covered with a thin membrane of sheepskin. Traditionally, kamanches once had three silk strings, however modern models have four metal strings.

The instrument is played with a bow with variable tension which is held not above like that of the violin , but supported from below, the palm of the hand visible, in this similar to the German holding of the double bass or to that of the viola da gamba.
